'Tiny Happy People': a fantastic new resource for parents of newborns to four year olds

The BBC have launched a new platform providing resources and support to parents and carers of children aged 0-4.

Tiny Happy People has been specially designed with experts to help nurture children’s language right from pregnancy, including a range of free films, articles, quizzes and parenting tips. The new platform has a wealth of resources supporting all aspects of parents, not just language development - I just wish it was available when our two children were very young!

Activities to try with your child - Select from the relevant age group for your little one for lots of ideas of things to try with them.

Tips and advice - Advice for new parents, developmental tips, advice on speaking multiple languages, understanding different health care professional roles, key questions answered ... and more.

Science and facts - Info on how you can play a role in your baby's development, the science behind a baby's development and how toddlers develop.

When children start school they should be able to speak to their new friends in full sentences, ask teachers simple questions and understand what they’re told to do. When they have these skills they’ll feel more confident and they’ll be happier. But children starting school all across the UK today are unable to do these things. In England, 1 in 4 children starting primary school are behind with their level of literacy development (language, communication and literacy skills) by the time they start primary school, rising to more than 1 in 3 (42%) in some areas (Department for Education, 2019). The picture is similar in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland too. Language and communication skills unlock literacy, and that’s why Tiny Happy People is concentrating on the building blocks of language development.
